Vol.1 - ONF visits Japan to hold their first fanmeeting! Official debut this summer “Will work hard in order to make their goal of dome tour come true”
Q: Your thoughts on finishing your first fanmeeting in Japan?
MK: We have safely finished our fanmeeting. Since there were a lot of people who came we are very happy, and we hope to show better performances next time.
Hyojin: I’m the only member who has not been to Japan before. After meeting our Japanese fans, it has dawned on me that our activities in Japan has really started which moved me.
U: I’ve always wanted to go to Japan with the members, and I’m very happy that we’re able to hold a fanmeeting in Tokyo.
Q: Did any of Japanese member U’s friends watch?
U: My family watched.
Q: You looked really nervous during Part 1.
Laun: I was really nervous. I studied Japanese for 4 years for this day, and I’m really happy that I’m finally able to show what I’ve learned. Next time, we’ll do more preparations and come back to Japan with our improved selves.
U: Since there were also talks and games aside from performances, I was really nervous. But since Mr. Furuya, the MC, helped us a lot it became an enjoyable fanmeeting.
Q: The response was hot especially during the members’ drawing corner. E-Tion looks like he draws really well.
E-Tion: I liked drawing and designing since I was a kid.
Q: On the contrary, Wyatt’s drawing looks complicated. (laughs)
Wyatt: Hahahahaha!! My drawing looked sloppy, but sometimes I draw well too (laughs). Next time I’ll try my best in order to not have a sloppy drawing (laughs).
Q: What’s the most memorable moment from the fanmeeting?
MK: After the fanmeeting, we gave out photocards. While handing them (to the fans), we had conversations (with the fans) and since it’s the first time, I had fun.
E-Tion: The fact that a lot of fans, media, and staff came to our fanmeeting surprised me. I think I have to thank everyone who came.
Q: During the time that you were giving photocards, what did your fans tell you?
J-Us: They said we were cool~ hahahaha.
MK: I like you.
Wyatt: You’ve worked hard.
U: They suddenly asked me multiplication and division problems (laughs).
Q: ON team and OFF team played games and uploading funny photos on SNS as penalty was interesting.
Laun: I was with ON team during Part 1 so I did the punishment, compared to the other members I think I didn’t have a funny expression. Next time I’ll do it properly (laughs).
Q: You have announced in front of your fans that you will be debuting this summer. How did you feel?
J-Us: We have studied Japanese since our trainee days because of Japanese activities. In the future, we’ll work hard in order to show good stages, and we want to become an ONF that is well loved by Japanese fans.
Q: Do you have specific goals?
J-Us: We want to hold a dome tour someday.
Q: How about shows?
U: We want to be on Music Station. We’d like it if we could also attend the Japanese year-end shows.
Q: It hasn’t been long since you’ve arrived in Japan, have you bought anything?
J-Us: I went to a convenience store and bought snacks and coffee milk that U recommended.
U: Yukijirushi’s coffee milk. I recommend it. (laughs)
Hyojin: I bought Yukimi Daifuku (mochi ice cream).
J-Us: I also bought an ice cream that has strawberries inside.
MK: I have a lot of things I want to buy: I bought bread, ramen, and ice cream. There’s a lot of amusing things in a Japanese convenience store (laughs).
E-Tion: There are various foods in a Japanese convenience store and I also have a lot of things I want to eat but I plan on eating all of them once all work are done (laughs).
Wyatt: I only bought coffee milk. Since I’m on a diet...
Q: We heard that it’s only Hyojin who is visiting Japan for the first time. What is Japan like?
Hyojin: Before coming to Japan, I’ve heard a lot of stories that Korea and Japan are quite similar. However, in reality, I think the buildings and the roads have different feel to them. I like Japanese foods like ramen, tonkatsu, etc. so I eat them often in Korea but the tonkatsu I had in Japan was really good.
Q; Aside from those, what are the foods that you have tried and you want to try?
Laun: I’ve tried shabu shabu. I want to try monjayaki.
Hyojin: Wagyu.
MK: Yakiniku.
E-Tion: Since this is Japan, I want to eat sushi.
Q: Places (in Japan) you want to go to?
J-Us: When I think of Japan, I always want to go to hot springs. When will I be able to go? (laughs)
Wyatt: Universal Studios.
Hyojin: Mine is Disneyland.
Wyatt: Oh! Me too.
MK: Osaka! I’ve been there before.
Hyojin: Also, ah!! The world’s scariest Fuji-Q Highland’s haunted house. I want to go there once.
Q: It’s scary, would it be okay?
Hyojin: I don’t think I’ll make it, we should do rock paper scissors and the loser gets to enter first (laughs).
Laun: I get scared easily, but I want to go to Fuji-Q Highland’s haunted house.
Hyojin; They say it’s the world’s scariest so I want to go.
MK: (In Japanese) I would never go there.
Q: We heard that U lives in Osaka so he doesn’t go to Tokyo often. Do you have a place you want to go?
U: I want to go to Okinawa to see the beautiful ocean.
Q: What did the other members hear from U about Japan?
E-Tion: We heard that there is a cherry blossom festival during Spring. If you watch a Japanese movie or drama, there are scenes where a lot of cherry blossom come out and people are walking while wearing either a Yukata or Kimono. It looks so cool I definitelt want to see that (scene).
Laun: I want to go to Sapporo Snow Festival, it’s a big event that does not happen in Korea so I want to go once.
Q: On the other hand, when did U experience Korean culture?
U: During the Lunar New Year, I went to MK hyung and J-Us hyung’s homes, and there I experienced Korean culture. I did a “New Year’s bow” and personally felt it. It’s a new experience.
Q: Each member is unique and has distinct characters, please let us know if you have any surprising charms.
Hyojin: Wyatt usually shows his very handsome and manly side but surprisingly he has a lot of aegyo and he jokes with us a lot.
E-Tion: U is younger than me, but he’s firm and is good at organizing stuff that he’s a hyung-like-dongsaeng.
Q: At the fanmeeting, we heard that U is good at cleaning. On the contrary, who is the messy member?
U: The thing that bothers me lately is, I think Laun is not good with cleaning.
Laun: (laughs) I will self-reflect.
Wyatt: MK usually shows a lot of aegyo but when he needs to be diligent, he is diligent. He’s like that too during practice, also when he composes. When I see his serious side when he’s composing, I think he’s very respectable. As a friend, I can learn a lot from him.
E-Tion: Laun is smart, and U is the same. Ah, the hyungs may not be like that but (laughs), these dongsaengs often show us composed and matured sides. I think their reverse charms are being not maknae like.
MK: E-Tion hyung is as is. Cute and playful. For something surprising, he searches on the internet a lot so he is very informative. If I don’t know something, he searches it right then and informs me about it.
Wyatt: Since he’s informative, he also gives good opinions so it helps us grow/develop.
Q: What is it like to have two leaders?
MK: Having two are like having a mom and a dad.
Laun: Hyojin hyung is the mom, and J-Us hyung is the dad.
Q: J-Us said in the fanmeeting that he’s unexpectedly a tough leader.
J-Us: It’s not that I’m always strict, but when there’s a mistake or problem my role is to resolve it. But I don’t think I’m that strict (laughs). I’m actually a soft/gentle leader.
Hyojin: As for me, am I not as what I look like? If not tell me.
E-Tion: Hyojin looks gentle on the outside too but if he wants to say something he’s straight forward and if there’s something you lack, he’ll help you by telling it to you as is. Especially when it’s vocal related, he’ll point out directly your mistakes and what needs to br done.
